Marking a revolutionary milestone in smartphone history, Honor has unveiled an innovative new concept — the Honor Robot Phone. This groundbreaking device features a robotic arm-mounted camera that can automatically adjust to different angles, introducing a new era of mobile photography.
The design closely resembles a gimbal-style camera, but it operates with AI assistance to automatically position the lens at the ideal angle for capturing photos and videos. When inactive, the camera seamlessly retracts into the phone’s rear panel, appearing as a regular camera module. When activated, however, the robotic arm extends, allowing for selfies, creative shots from various angles, and even shooting from below surfaces such as tables or flat platforms — as demonstrated in the promotional video.
Interestingly, the robotic mechanism doesn’t just assist with photography — it also demonstrates AI-driven behaviors, such as expressive movements, gestures, and even mimicking human-like interactions like smiling or observing its surroundings. Honor describes this device not merely as a phone, but as an AI-powered companion that extends the boundaries of traditional smartphone functionality.
Honor, originally a subsidiary of Huawei, is a China-based company known for its innovative smartphone designs. It’s noteworthy that the now-famous Dynamic Island feature seen on Apple devices first appeared in the Honor V20 years before Apple adopted the concept. Honor has also pioneered many breakthroughs in mobile camera technology and continues to push the boundaries of design.
According to the company, the Honor Robot Phone is expected to launch in 2026.
