Samsung has officially unveiled its newest Galaxy XR headset, designed to compete directly with the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest devices already on the market. One of its biggest advantages is that the Galaxy XR is priced significantly lower than the Apple Vision Pro.
Developed in collaboration with Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm, this headset is the first device powered by the Android XR operating system.
With the Galaxy XR, users can view content from their phone, TV, or computer on a massive virtual screen. Through Google Photos, 2D images and videos can be viewed in 3D, and Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Meet are available as XR-optimized apps.
A major highlight is the integration of Google’s Gemini AI assistant, which can answer questions about the photos you’re viewing and even help you book flight tickets. The device runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset and includes advanced features like eye tracking and hand tracking.
Currently, the VR market is dominated by the Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro, but Samsung’s Galaxy XR aims to change that. It’s now available for purchase via Samsung.com and at Samsung Experience Stores in the United States and South Korea.
Although virtual reality technology is still in its early stages, the integration of AI with innovative devices like the Samsung Galaxy XR could accelerate its growth and make immersive technology more accessible to everyone..
