At Gamescom 2025, the Chinese game studio Game Science surprised everyone by announcing a brand-new title — Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Although it’s not a sequel to Wukong, the game is set in a universe inspired by the world of Wukong, drawing from the same mythological atmosphere.
Zhong Kui is a legendary figure from ancient Chinese folklore, known as the vanquisher of ghosts and demons, and in this new title, he takes the role of the main protagonist.
Game Science showcased a short CGI trailer, which has already gone viral, surpassing 9 million views online. The game is still in its early stages of development, with the studio describing it as a “blank canvas” — something they are carefully shaping as development continues. For now, no release date or additional gameplay details have been revealed.
Instead of simply expanding Wukong through a DLC, Game Science chose to create an entirely new game, demonstrating the ambitious vision they have for the Black Myth universe. With new characters, stories, and gameplay experiences in development, the studio is clearly determined to keep players excited and intrigued for what’s to come.
